Anna-Stina Hägglund new Research Communicator at the Donner Institute

Doctor of Philosophy Anna-Stina Hägglund has been appointed as the new research communicator at the Donner Institute for Research in Religious and Cultural History. The decision was made by the institute’s board. Hägglund brings extensive expertise in science communication to the institute. She was selected for her diverse academic background, well-considered development ideas, and strong collaborative skills. Previously, she held a postdoctoral position in cultural history at Åbo Akademi University.

– I look forward to working with the communication surrounding the diverse research conducted at the Donner Institute, as well as with issues related to open science, which also plays an important role in the institute’s activities,” says Hägglund.

The position, which received thirteen applications, is partially new. It includes some responsibilities previously held by the institute’s research librarian but places greater emphasis on communication.

– What attracted me to the position was the opportunity to contribute to a broader and more multifaceted research environment – something the Donner Institute’s varied fields of research truly make possible,” Hägglund explains.

The research communicator will develop and coordinate the institute’s external and internal communication. Tasks include designing and implementing a communication plan, increasing the institute’s visibility across various media, and strengthening the library’s information resources in line with the principles of open science. The role also involves acquiring literature, participating in ongoing research at the institute, and conducting independent research.

The Donner Institute for Research in Religious and Cultural History is a private research institute affiliated with the Åbo Akademi University Foundation. The institute’s operations focus on two main areas: research and library services. As the institute prepares to move into new premises in autumn 2025, the need for clear and effective communication is growing. The research communicator will play a key role in this transition.
